IMAP4 Problem
Mar 1st, 2010, 6:47pm

I  am trying to enable IMAP4 mail forwarding from a AIX 5.3 Server with Oracle R12-10g through a Microsoft Exchange 2003 non-clustered server. I have IMAP4 virtual Server and Telnet running on the Exchange Server, but when I attempt to logon to the Exchange Server through a telnet session, I get the following error message.

# telnet mailserver.name.com 143
Trying...
Connected to mailserver.name.com.
Escape character is '^]'.

Connection closed.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

Do you have telnet or ssh services enabled on your windows server?  Do you have PUTTY client for Windows or here is a telnet/ssh server for windows - Multimedia file viewing and clickable links are available for registered members only!!  You need to Login or Register!!
- you might want to look into!

Good Luck - please let the group know what you end up working out.

Thanks for replying.

Yes, I have Telnet enabled and verified that the Service is Started. I do not have any issues, as far as I can tell, with telnet on any of my Servers. The issue, as I can see it, is with IMAP port 143.

Could it be an issue between WinServer2003/Exchange2003 requiring the Domain Name and port number separated by a : and AIX using a space in the Client application?

Hello,
this message has definitely nothing to do with your telnet syntax.

you should fix the issue in exchange :
Maybe the IMAP server is configured with option "require secure channel" -> I suggest you disable this and try again

Your absolutely right Tim. I finally figured that out last night.

Even though I am not our Exchange Administrator, I should not have taken what I was told at face value. Live and learn, trust but verify.

Sorry to have wasted the time of those who responded.
